Default Engine Build question

My friend is building an engine and asked me this question. i just want to know if im 100% right. He asked if he needs the crank main bearing caps that came with that block origonally or if he can buy some and use them?? I said he needs the ones that originally came with that block.

yes you need the original caps. If you use another set you need to get the mains line honed at a machine shop
