Default energy susp. red or black?

I am going to get the hyperflex kit for a 96 hatch, but I was wondering (search gave me nothing) which ones are better. The black ones which are apparently self-lubricating, or the red ones which are said to not be selflubricated. Can anyone confirm this, and which would be my best choice. I have very stiff spring rates and not looking forward to the squeaks. Are both the same in stiffness? Thx

You ask good questions and since you said you searched I will help.

I have the hyperflex kit on my daily driver and they NEVER squeak, I will teach you my secret.

1st point of business though, get the red ones. From what I understand there is something in the black ones that is used to make them black that will allow them to deteriorate, rip, or crumble. The red ones yield no problems. My bushings have seen 40k miles inluding 1 season autocrossing and 6 open track days along with many "spirited drives".

2nd point, lubrication and squeeking. Here is a link that will be VERY valuable to you: http://overboost.com/story.asp?id=426 Scroll about half way down the page and it will show you how to install Zerk fittings (grease fittings) into the lower control arms and rear trailing arms so that they are easy to re-lube. As for the rear LCA's you will not install a zerk fitting but you might want to take off the control arm no more than once a year and re-lube them if necessary (I haven't had to yet and it's been 40k miles in 2.5 years.)

Good luck.

black is sleeper.

when you install the master kit, a propane torch and a dremel make the job A LOT easier. burn/scrape the rubber out with the torch and a flathead, pull out the inner sleeves with some needle nose pliers, and finally cut out the outer sleeve with the dremel and a grinding tip.
