Default An electrical problem that NO ONE HAS EVER HAD....why.

I was working on my CRX today and I noticed that my ratchet kept sticking to the alternator pulley.

I touched the pulley and it was freakin hot.....and the car hadn't run in two days. I touched it with my ratchet again and sure enough, my alternator pulley is an electro-magnet. When I disconnected the battery the pulley is no longer magnetized.

I know that I probably need to replace the alternator, but could somehting just be connected wrong? (you won't believe the problems that I've had with this car, so it wouldn't surprise me)

Help me if you can

Something is wrong with the alternator internally, or with the wiring. If you wind a string of copper around a screw driver very tightly, and hook it up to a battery, you will notice you now have an electromagnetic screw driver. Disconnect the battery, and you no longer have the magnatism.

Something has shorted out in your wiring, or internally something has gone wrong.

I'm guessing it's internal. I'm going to be getting a used alternator from Bense for free-99, so hopefully it will be better than this one.
