Default ECU Question???

Hey I am looking to by a Type R ecu and I want the 98 JDM spec R one, but I dont know the exact ecu codes, right now i have a USDM GSR ecu and the code is 37820-p72-A02, and I know that a 98 USDM type r ecu code is 37820-p73-A03, I also know the 98 JDM spec r ecu is 37820-p73-013, but my question is what year is the ecu of a JDM spec r that has the code 37820-p73-003, because i thought 96-98 were the same but when I looked at my friends ecu out of his JDM Integra Type R he had the 37820-p73-013 and that is how I know that code and that is when i got confused...please try to help me I know this post is a little bit confusing...thanks!!

ok, well all ITR ecu's, JDM or US are 'P73' ecu's. The best way to really tell apart a JDM vs. US ITR ecu is by plugging simply plugging it into your car. What you want to do is unplug the VTEC pressure switch (green plug on vtec solenoid) -- If you get a check engine light for that unplugged sensor then that will designate a US P73 ecu. All JDM P73 and other OBD2 vtec ecu's do NOT look for that particular sensor, nor a 2nd 02, or CKP sensor's as well.

ok, sounds good, but I want to know the difference in years of the ecu's, because I know the way to tell apart USDM from JDM is that after the p73 it is either an A..... or a 0....., ex. 98' USDM Type R p73-A03, and 98' JDM Type R p73-013, the thing I need to know is the difference in the numbers after the p73, like p73-???, if its JDM it will start with a 0, but I dont know how to tell the difference in the 96-97 JDM Type R's and the 99+ JDM Type R's, i know one of them is p73-003 but I dont know which exact year that came out of, all I know for sure is the 98' spec, if you know any further info. please let me know...thanks!

1997 Type-R=37820-P73-A02
1998 Type-R=37820-P73-A03
2000-01 Type-R=37820-P73-A04
All part numbers are USDM.

So you are saying that the JDM ITR ECU is the same as the USDM????

That's funny Albert when you pulled out Anthony's JDM ITR ECU out of his JDM ITR it didn't start with an P73-"A" just as we expected it was a "0".... As long as we know it's JDM we can tell if it will work in you car albert.... Just needs to run off of A,B,D...

I was just giving you all the information that I have regarding Type-R ECU's. I don't have any information on JDM stuff. I was hoping that it would give a point of reference and help you out a little.

I would hazard to guess that 37820-P73-001 would be the first JDM Type-R ECU (96?) and that subsequent JDM ECU's would be sequentially higher. 002, 003, on up to 013 and beyond.

JDM Type R ecu's:

37820-p73-003 = 96-97
37820-p73-013 = 98-99
37820-p73-023 = 00-01

I found it out on numerous sites. Back in the day when I was doing nothing but sitting for hours each day researching stuff for my own personal knowledge..

I have also seen pics of each JDM ecu, and I've owned both 97 and 00 JDM ITR ecu's...

It won't matter if it's a 97 or 98, they are both the same plug style..

Well not from my experience with them. The JDM Type R motors have differences thats why the 96-97's only make about 197hp and the 98-99 make about 210! And every time the barcodes change that means that they have been revised so something just be a little different, I mean the main things are the same that you can tell right off the vtec and fuel cuttoff but I think they did make some little changes!
