ECU chip question?
I'll be the first to admit that I'm a noob to doing things to the ecu for more power. So just wondering. I was told by a guy at a tuner shop that he could get me a chip for my ecu and it would put my vtec crossover at 5,500 rpm and my redline at 9,200 rpm.
I have a J-spec h22 with just basic bolt-ons i/h/e will it not hurt my engine if I actually took the car to that type of rpm without internal work or does the chip fix that problem? Like I said I'm a noob at some of this stuff so don't flame me just curious.

the vtec point will probably be better than stock on that. but you cannot hit 9200 without internal work, this is a mechanical problem, not electronic. thats what a redline is for, and it shouldnt be crossed without new valve springs and retainers.
Yup...if you're running mild mods i.e. bolt-ons...its best to keep your vtec crossover point stock. Raising your rev limit a tad won't hurt.
Most of the people I've worked with have me raise their rev limits to either accomodate their driving / shifting techniques...or to simply squeeze out a a few HP found up the powerband. Most of them run mildly modified motors.
