dumb question but good to know
hey i was just wondering how i could tell if i had a bad wheel bearing? i tried driveing the car and seeing if the rims or lugs get hot but they don't and i don't know if that's partly because i have GSR wheels on it. but i get a humming noise, that goes away when i make left turns. and something sounds like it's wobbling around in the back like the wheel maybe. also can anyone tell me how hard this is to replace i have a manual.
i'll awnswer my own question. to tell if your car has a bad wheel bearing jack up what ever end the wheel is on (front or back) and spin the wheel and feel for hard or rough spots in the smoothness of the turn. also if your car is making a loud humming noise it could be caused by this. the noise going away when making a turn will give you a idea of what wheel it is.
I had bad wheel bearings straight from the factory ! It was a loud humming noise that only got loader as I went faster.... At first I thought it was because of the shitty stock tires, but when I switch off to some toyos, same crap. I had to replace both front bearings....under warranty.
also, you might feel vibrations when driving straight or in a turn. a bad bearing can sound like a big trucks uneven tire treads rolling on the ground, you no what i mean, i hope. yea whatever
