Default Downsides to running very retarded timing ?

I have a situation where I am getting pinging. I run increase compression and a uberdata chipped ecu which was unfortunately programmed for 93 oct. (I'm on 91). I have run retarded base timing until I get a new burner (3 weeks at least) and drive 50+ miles per day. Would I see any downsides to running almost max retard at the dizzy ? (aside from crappy mileage)

no downside i can think of as far as damage to the motor ... you are saving it from detonation ... get ready for lots of poping exhaust

Lawd... before I backed off the timing the car would *pop*pop*pop*...silencer or not... now it's like Orville Redden-honda...

I know about the horrible gas mileage and unburnt fuel... just curious as to any possibility of damage... I'd rather she not detonate as the uberdata program I'm running shuts off the KS.
