im confused.....how do nto down shift....if im going say 40, in 4th jsut crusing along, and i need to get aroudn a fairly tight turn, i usualy put int he cluth, put it in neutral, brake, put it in third or second and continue around the bend.

is thay bad....thast how i was tought to drive....doesnt mean tis the right way.
you just put the clutch in and shift down a gear and let the clutch out.. and if your revs are still too low. shift down again.

when i'm driving a stick... the car/truck is always in a gear when moving.. neutral is for stop lights.

i always downshift.. it probably wears the syncros more but it's fine.. i rev match.

Nothing wrong with downshifting. I do it all the time. A properly designed car should be more than able to handle all the dowshifts you can throw at it.

I'm just saying that there's nothing necessarily good about dowhshifting. Doesn't mean it's bad.

It will eat up your clutch quicker though
not if you're rev-matching like you should be

1.double clutching = good thing. it let's you down shift while putting virtually no wear and tear on your synchros or clutch. it's good to do this whenever you downshift.

2.it won't hurt the motor, and is almost necessary for long decents unless you want to cook your brakes.

this is my opinon.. i could be wrong.. but trucks DO NOT have syncros..... it can take more of a beating..... our cars have syncro which wears much faster if abused constantly.. hell.. i downshift all the time.... no problems yet

If you're in fourth, hold the gas drop it to third and let the clutch out matching revs... if you want to slow down this way, let off the gas, push in the clutch, put it in third, and slowly let out the clutch so that the engine braking occurs and u have slowed down and can accelerate as need be

I downshift all the time; though not to slow down but to be in the right gear to have power for the upcoming situation (curve, red light turning green, etc). I USED to downshift to slow down. Of course, with the mountainous terrain, I will downshift to control the speed of the car going down a grade.

I blew up the synchros in a Honda transmission in 20,000 miles because I didn't double clutch. This is the common '99 Si gearbox that was weak to begin with. After the rebuild, I've double clutched all the time and never had a problem.

You can downshift all you want as long as u dont over rev. I would figure being at 6k rpm and not on the gas is better than being at 6k on the gas. Anyway the tranny isnt make out of plastic and you arent grinding gears so I dont think you are doing damage.
