DOT5 Silicone brake fluid...
I had a test today, and in the test, it had a question
"What is brake fluid made of?" or something in that line
there were four choices and the correct answer was "glycol and alcohol"
but i chose "silicone and alcohol" since DOT5 is a silicone based fluid.
but..... alcohol..... does DOT 5 contain any alcohol? If it does, i would be able to get another point on my test
does anyone have a link to prove this? or prove me wrong?
thanx

hrm... i think i answered myself....
DOT 3 and 4 includes alcohol... that makes them hydroscopic (sucks moisture)
and DOT 5 is said to be not hydroscopic. Alcohol sucks moisture, so that would make DOT 5 have no alcohol....
so i guess i was wrong...
eh no extra point for me....

LOL yeah, sorry, its hyGroscopic
hehehe
anyway, yeah, i was searching through, but the only info i can find is that to flush the DOT 3 or 4 with alcohol before changing it to DOT 5, which would make no sense. since that would take make the DOT 5 contaminated with alcohol, making it hygroscopic.....
any info would be appreciated

The Earl's (no relation) catalog says never to use Dot 5 for high performance apps.
Yeah, ive seen that before. but it seems that DOT 5 does no damage to the rubber cups and stuff.
DOT 5.1 I think is the best choice. no need to flush, still glycol based. but i havent seen it being sold around in my area.
P.S. also, DOT 5 is supposed to give a spongy feel compared to the other brake fluids.
