does winter affect longevity of summer tires?
hey guys, since the rubber compound on summer tires is softer, does exposure to freezing weather have any bad effects on the rubber? Will longevity or performance be affected when I get back to driving it this summer? I got SO-3s right before I left the country so I was just wondering. Thanks in advance.
actually....it depends on what you consider a summer tire. specifically, i've heard that the ever-so-popular falken azenis are simply HORRIBLE in the winter. the soft compound turns hard and traction = a big fat zero. so i would think this would apply to all soft tires. as far as affecting summer use like your original question, no, i dont think it would affect the wear. but the main question is, why are you using a summer tire in the winter? thats what all-seasons are for.

Thanks for the replies guys.
BTW - I have the SO-3s on because I got a flat a week before I left the country, so instead of getting another re-92, I just got the set of SO-3s and hoped it wouldn't snow till I left. So now they're waiting for me when I come back in June.
