yea since the lift of the cam is bigger it would show lower numbers on the compression guage

Someone correct me if im wrong

you are thinking the wrong kind of compression. If you have a 10.8:1 compression ratio, cams are going to have nothing to do with it. All cams do is move the valves, more or less.

but a cam with more duration and overlap will lower your compression. the only thing i dont remember is if it lower dyanmic or static. I figured it would lower both

Would it make such a difference? Since you would want the valves to open (as high as they can) and close quickly. To allow as much air as you can in, and release as much air as you can back out. To increase power

The reason it differs is that long duration cams are designed to make peak torque at a higher RPM then stock cams. They achive this by leaving the valves open longer than a stock cam, this bleeds off more cylinder pressure(dymanic)vs stock. When you perfrom a compression test you are by no means getting the max pressure reading the cyl will see during operation, operational pressures are much higher, you are mearly getting a reading of what the engine can pull in and squeze at 300-400 RPM w/ the starter turning it. Static compression is built into the engine and doesn't change at anytime.Dynamic pressure is the amount the cyl sees in operation and changes infinitly as the crank turns and cyl volume increaces/decreaces,and many other properties built into or added to the engine.
