Default Do-it-yourself garage

Hi everyone. I'm putting together a business plan for a do-it-yourself garage and wanted to get a better idea of the demand for this service. I put together a small survey (10 questions) that would help us setup the shop to better serve our future customers. The survey can be found at http://www.diygarage.net/survey_ht.asp . Thank you

Pedro

Where are the garages going to be, are you looking for any Canadian Affiliates?

I'm in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. And the Import tuning scene is just starting here so there aren't even any tuner shops yet. But there are tons of people DIYing at home. Sounds like a good idea.

When I was -umm- younger... in Milwaukee there were a couple places like this, they've gone out of business. I never knew for sure, but I thought it had something to do with liabilities for injury or damage. At some point they maybe could not get insurance for a reasonable price. You might want to check that out very carefully before you get too far.

Make people sign waivers (sp?) releasing the shop of responsibility.

I have always wished there was a place like this in my area. Its a great idea.

It is a good idea but it will never work. Like what joe_bocc said: <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Charlie Moua &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> insurace and liablity is a very big concern.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Everybody sues in this country. The company I work for gets sued all of the time. I've been deposed 2 times in my 5 years I've woked for this company. The milatary has someting like this for their service men. Well at least when I was in Germany.

this is a great idea, i actually contemplated doing this when i got out of the service. we have the same thing on base, i use it all the time and it is always busy. if you can iron out the liability issues you'll have a great business. just remember to aggressively advertise this service.

I love DIY garages...I use the one at the base i'm at all the time..saved me tons of money...I call it the "Hobby Shop"

To give you an idea of how it saved me money,
1st day took out sohc motor and everything automatic, 2nd day put in b18b LS motor and manual parts= car running great and total costs for bay fees, using the hydrolic lift and every tool they have and car staying overnight for one night= $60

EDIT: $10-$15 seems a bit much for hourly bay fees IMO(in your survey). I guess i'm spoiled with the $2-$4 hourly bay fees on base! $8-$10/hr sounds reasonable.

Cool idea, especially for city folk with no garage of their own. Good luck.

Just finished your survey.
