Well if you overheat at all usally the boiled over coolant goes into the bottle.. If you seal that then its going to blow a hose or the radiator.. If you really dont want to run a bottle then I would run a coolant line from the radiator down to the ground.. That way excess coolant will still release..

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by eg6T &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">it would be ok just to run an open line down to the ground?nothing could get messed up from that?</TD></TR></TABLE>No. When warm some coolant moves into the reservoir. When it cools down it's supposed to get sucked back in. If you leave an open line, then each time you turn off the engine it'll suck air in thru that hose. The radiator isn't designed to have an air space in the upper tank.

All you need is ANY kind of bottle with a hose dropped to the bottom. I even saw a picture of someone used a water bottle. If you used a really small bottle, you just have to watch it & check more often.

Back in the day... The radiator's upper tank would have been larger to prevent air bubbles from being carried along with the water flowing down thru the radiator core. Bubble entrainment isn't a 2-minute calculation, so I'm not gonna do it now.

But if you haven't had a problem, then I guess it's not as close as I guessed???

you cannot pass tech inspection with an open hose leaking coolant onto the track.

Just relocate it where it clears.
