i have a built g.e. sleeved b18c 84mm with LS crank (1.98L now) turbo with fully built head.
i just started my car a few times since i built it. havent reved it up or driven it yet but i noticed at idle that my crank pulley was moving side to side alot. pulled it off to inspect it and reinstalled after inspecting the keyway as well. still moving side to side. i figured it was just out of round so i ordered a new ctr n1 pulley.
im now wondering if i should have bought a fluidampr dampener instead. i originally thought that it wasnt needed since honda are internally balanced and when i built my engine i had the crank micropolished and balanced.
i would like some opinions on whether or not a fluidampr is really necissary.

"internal balance" is nice, but that still won't dampen harmonics.
an OE pulley is probably fine, just stay clear of the "underdrive" and lightweight aftermarket sets.
you can check out the Fluidyne and ATI websites for info on why you may want one of those over the OE part. if you've got a lot of money in your motor, it's a good way to protect that investment.

I agree that an expensive balance is not necessary but make sure you do run some sort of harmonic dampener. If you don't you could break your crankshaft due to torsional vibration.

i just bought a CTR N1 pulley though. its oem but its not a harmonic balancer. it has no rubber or anything on it like the oem gsr pulley had.
will the N1 still be ok?
