well the engine needs to be grounded, not just the block
its located on the front of the valve cover, and connects above the air conditioning compressor on the frame.

If you don't ground the block, Current has no way of leaving the Starter and going back to the Battery.. In other words, you'll have an Open Starter and think that your problem is the Starter..

So if I were, I'd ground the engine block. But it's up to you..

Where it mounts must be clean, yes, but that's not the end of it. The current leaves the battery through the red wire, goes to the starter, then must make it's way back to the battery. How is that accomplished? It's very important to have a big fat wire connecting the block to either the chassis or the battery negative. If you don't, the hundreds of amps will flow back in ANY ground, including little ones. If this happens, tons of smoke will result, and possibly a fried ECU.

well in my car for instance, there is a small tranny bracket that gets ground wire form the battery.where that bracket is attaced i have removed the powdercoating so that is grounded against the case.should i try to run another ground attahcd to the starter and going back to chassis ground?
