I am a girl and don't know everything about cars. I bought my accord brand new in 2000 and it has 28K miles on it now. Well, the brakes have already gone out. Is that normal? They were squealing really bad too yesterday, so I took them to the Honda place to get them fixed today. The guy said it was going to be over $300.00, I was like what?? Then he said he made a mistake and it was going to be over 100. It ended up being almost $200.00. He changed the brakes pads and rotated the Rotors. Did I get cheated or was that a fair price?

28K...........unless the rotors were extremely warped............they should not have had to be turned at that kinda mileage. Pads are cheap and about an hour labor..............you got screwed!

Actually, you really didn't get screwed since the Accord has a hub over rotor design, and you have to separate the hub from the knuckle.
Regardless, your brakes shouldn't have gone out that fast...

a 2000 accord doesnt have hub over rotor... either way if you went to a dealer that would be ~average price, it really depends on how you drive/brake the car, i've seen obvious abuse of the brakes on cars with 15k and some with over 60k with original brakes still in good condition...
I'd say it depends on your driving style. If you like to ride your brakes down long hills....hard stops at signs/lights...driving with 2 feet and letting your left foot ride on the brake...etc.
I doubt it's a problem with the car
