first time i tried it on my d16 head i didn't have chicken wire so i used a diff type of wire and kind of made a box with a bunch of wires hang down on it and put it in a storage box you can buy at walmart and i dump some baking soda in (not one cup) but after 12hrs it didn't work for me, now i'm gunna try it again with a diff setup with the wire but i ran out of baking soda and don't want to drive 14 miles to pick one up so i wondering can i use one of these dawn dish soap, grill degreaser, car wash soap, ajax, laundry soap or borax? or is it best to wait till i have to go to town again for baking soda?

 

Interesting to say the least. Looks easy and cheap to do.

 

I was waiting for something like this to come up. I have been looking to create my own hot tank as well. I did try for some research but I really more or less came up empty handed.

 

i always thought a hot tank was a chemical bath.
what's going on there is Electrolysis. and you can use the exact same process to remove rust.

You're exactly right about the rust removal...I didn't think the electrolysis process even cleaned grimey parts...

As far as a Hot Tank is concerned, I like this setup. I wouldn't pay $600 for it from these guys + the almost $200 shipping, seeing as it is essential a controllable heater and a 55 gallon drum. This setup could be easily replicated.
