Default distributor timing. b16a crx

well everything besides the thermo sensor is hooked up on my obd1 b16a (just haven't had the time to get it hooked up) but i got a problem. the thing wont start up. im trying to narrow my ideas down and figure out whats going on by doing some searching etc. but my uncle said that everything else sounded like it was proper except that my timing sounded off. he said that i was 180 degrees off. i tried to talk to him and figure out how to correct this, but he couldn't explain it all that well. i figure i could just take the distributor off and turn the rotor manually perhaps then set the motor on compression stroke and go from there. i did some searching but i didn't really get what i was looking for. anyone got any insight? thanks.

is your crx an obd 0 car with an obd 1 motor in it? if so, you will have to convert the obd 1 dizzy to obd 0. they are not interchangeable. also, if your motor was 180 degrees off you could simply check it by rolling the motor to TDC and verifying if the cam gears are both in the "up" position.

i have converted my car from pre obd to obd1 so yes i have the right distributor. as for being 180 degrees off, i know im not at the crank or the cams but i was wondering if it was possible that i was 180 degrees off at the distributor. when putting new cam seals in before i put the engine in the car i turned the cams every which way to get the bolts loosened and tightened, so i was wondering if there was any way i could have gotten my distributor 180 degrees off.

yes, it could be 180 off, put everything at tdc, take the dizzy cap off and check the rotor; it should be pointing at #1 cyl.

if it isn't just take the distributor off set it at tdc and then just put it back on? or is there a better way?

The distributor shouldn't fit on the intake cam any other way except the right way? One of the teeth is angeled so that it won't fit right if put in wrong? But i have seen some people force them in there?

oh really? i didn't know that. in that case then my distributor timing shouldn't be off then. cause i haven't even removed the distributor just replaced the cap and the rotor so that shouldn't have a thing to do with it.

i was thinking, and i could be wrong, and if so, please explain. but what if im on the exhaust stroke when it fires would it even turn over? could i just rotate the crank 360 degrees and get it on the compression stroke for tdc. am i right in thing that the crank has to rotate two times to do a full compression and exhaust stroke? or is it just one and compression is dedicated to 180 and the exhaust is dedicated to 180. thanks. the motor does turn over. just doesn't start, does that sound like my problem perhaps?
