Default Distributor on B16a

I went to get a new rotor and cap for my distributor today. I talked to a couple people, and they told me 99 Si cap/rotor would fit. I went to Discount, and neither looked right. I then asked for an 88 Integra rotor. It looked almost exactly like mine, so I took it instead of the Si. I brought it home and put it on. Now after I start the car the tach goes CRAZY. It goes all over the place. The car also idles really funny and then acts like it's going to die. Right before it cuts off it jumps back to normal idle. The car sounds to idle fine, but then dies again. The tach is jumping like 0-1500 bobbing up and down. I checked my tach signal wire and it seemed a little loose. I soddered it in tight and everything is going crazy. Question...is the rotor causing the problems, or is this tach wire? The tach wire is like cut off right after it comes out of the dis, so I dont have much wire to work with but I was able to sodder it to an extention wire now. My FK*ING DIPSH*T a** dropped the screw that holds the rotor in, so I have to go up to Discount in the morning and get a new one. I was going to just put my old rotor back on, but wanted to make sure that it would fix the problems.

not the rotor unless is one of those pos aftermarkets that works 10% of the time. but any 88-91 integra or civic rotor and cap are what you're after.

Would you know what would cause that idle, and how it can be fixed? It didn't seem to start happening until the new rotor was put on and the wires were messed with. It will idle fine for a few, the almost die and come back up again. The tach is going crazy too. I didn't think the rotor would have anything to do with this, but I wasn't sure.

[edit]

Also, if I decide to get a whole new distributor from like a j/yard, what should I get? Will the 88-91 Civic/Integra bolt on to the JDM B16a even though they're not made for VTEC?

I really didn't want to have to get a whole new one, I might have to though. If this doesn't fix it, I'll keep you in mind.
