Default Distributo condenser and internal coil question

What exactly does the condenser do? The wires on it are power, ground, ecu, rpm, and a negative to the coil.

Coil has the same power as the condenser, and then the coil output, and the ground from the condenser.

The ecu wire i'm assuming to the condenser signals the condenser to let the coil fire by breaking the ground to the coil.

My question is about the signal process and if the ecu gives the condenser 4 signals which unground the coil 4 times (per complete engine cycle)? This makes sense to me because the coil has to recharge.
