Default Differential Question - what is the difference between a centre diff (4wd) and a standard diff

The thought had just occured to me, i know of the TORSEN differentials .etc, but is a centre differential different to a standard differential found in our fwd hondas??

My understanding is that the standard differential senses the speed difference between both output shafts, and routes power accordingly. If this is true, a centre differential may be the same thing.

If i am right, what effect would an LSD such as the quaife ATB have in this scenario...?

Hopefully this will start a little discussion, just something im struggling to research...
