i had my v-afc tuned not to long ago, the shop told me that they could only tune it so far because i still have the stock ecu(p72). The reason being is because i have upgraded to a skunk 2 (single stage). They said if they were to tune it more it would throw a code, is this true? My friend told me to get a p30 ecu and chip it because its easier to tune? is this true? Its way easier to get a hold of a p28 and chip it What would be the difference between a chipped p28 and p30? what kind of gains am i expecting changing over to a different ecu? i dynod at 187whp with the stock p72 with the cam gears still set at zero. what chip do u think would be the best on my new ecu? I was thinking a skunk 2 chip, i plan on thowing in the 8k rev limiter on my msd 6al so i dont over rev the engine.
P30 and P28 once chipped will run same way, as the program determines on what sensors to read and take the data into.
if the ecu doesn't work with that program then yes there is a difference.
most programs that work on the P28 will work on the P72 (not all but skunk2, mugen, PYR, JUN and few others)
gains depend on tuning you do, its not clear ever you may gain anywhere from 1-15whp in an area while loose some power elsewhere.
most people who chip ecus can give you a custom (including me) vtec and rev limit for your motor/setup

so it would be easier to tune a ecu that is designed for a single stage intake manifold hence more power?
