Default Detonation problem?

My "check engine" sensor popped up and I decided to take my car to the dealership to get that checked. They said the problem is my catalyic converter. When my muffler shop installed my cat, it was welded onto my exhaust. Therefore, there is a detonation problem? (said the dealer) They said I needed a new cat. Is this true?

Ok, got back from the dealership and it says:

"FOUND CODE P0420 CATALYST DETERIORATION - FOUND B PIPE WELDED TO C"

I have a Apexi Dunk cat back and I can see the welding. The bolt on section has been cut off and being welded onto my carsound high flo cat. Do I need a new cat and exhaust? I am planning on just using my stock cat.

Ok, never ever going to a dealership again! I went to another car shop and all they did was reset. Its just the 02 sensoring not recognizing enough back pressure because of my mods. Bad thing is, the sensor may pop again in a couple of months.

If its stock cat on hi flo exhaust and header and intake you may be getting some unusual exhaust gas flow patterns that are popping the sensor. Your header, intake, and exhaust are trying to flow more exhaust gas but the stock cat is kind of a bottle neck.
