Not really sure where this would go so I'm just going to put it here.

My DD, a 1994 Saturn SL, is having some problems.

It is idling at about 2k whenever I push in the clutch when I am moving, but eventually goes down to about 1k when I am at a complete stop.

It also has some trouble starting and whenever I turn it off it smells like gas all around the car.

The only thing I can think of is when I pulled the valve cover to paint it I somehow did something wrong? When I put it back on I put some liquid gasket around the head gasket to seal it up.

Haven't had time to take a look around at the engine yet, but if anyone has any idea what it could be your input is appreciated.

Yep, you've got a vacuum leak

 

It was actually the head gasket. When I went to put it back on I didn't put enough RTV sealant on it so I guess it was leaking. I made sure to put plenty on when I put it on the second time, and no problems so far although my exhaust still smells like oil a little bit..
