d16z6 head mixup
I tried asking this in the '92-'00 civic eg/ek forum, no firm response, and I also tried in the crx/civic pre 92 forum to no avail as well. Anyway...
Block: '93 Z6 Head: '94 Z6
I have quite a dilema. I took apart my vtec assembly on the head. I took off the solenoid completely. I look down at the vtec housing (the thing the vtec solenoid bolts on to) and the piston in the housing has a hole in it. I also knew I had a spare one (housing from a '93 head), so I look at that and realize the piston in that housing is different. Here is what I mean:

See the hole on one of pistons and the other piston does not have a hole in it? Is the vtec solenoid the same for both housing models? And, does anyone have any idea which housing/piston is correct for my year engine?
I do not know which housing is from '94 or '93, but the vtec solenoid is from '93
I looked at the head and this is what it says just above the exhaust manifold: P08-5; then there are a few circles and this is exactly what it shows in the four circles:
<U>1:</U> 9\4
<U>2:</U> /6
<U>3:</U> 2\8
<U>4:</U> 0/6
Would the '93 block and the vtec assembly match the head?
Also, I have no codes, and I am damn sure oil pressure is the reason my vtec is not engaging.

Yes, I realize that, but its not the vtec solenoid that isn't working.
Its the vtec housing that I have the problem with. I believe the hole in piston there is causing me to lose oil pressure thus not allowing vtec to engage.
EDIT: i want to confirm its the vtec housing so I am not doing work for no reason.
