D16Y7...rpm limits
My car is prepped for the F-street prepared autocross class, so I'm rather limited with regards to engine mods (like going hybrid...I wish...). Fuel/air delivery, ignition, and exhaust are all free. I can't make modifications to the valvetrain, pistons, bottom end, or tranny ratios.
All that said, I've installed the intake manifold and fuel rail from a '99 EX, as well as a custom exhaust along with a little bit of port matching, and no cat (it's an autocross car). What I'm wondering is what kind of RPM's the wimpy D16 bottom end can stand. I'm primarily worried about those pencil thin connecting rods. Isn't the stock fuel cut at 6800 rpm's? For autocross, over-reving due to a missed shift isn't much of a problem. However, I do spend a fair amount of time on the rev limiter. I'm interested in the "extra" RPM's for gearing reasons rather than for more HP. What do you guys think? Would 7500 be like rolling the dice? ;-) Thanks for the advice!

I used to have a 97 D16Y7 and circuit raced for 2 sasons at high RPM and never had a problem... that was with no tach, so can't say what is a safe RPM to go to...just saying it can handle a lot of abuse.
