As the title says, are pressed steel sumps used on D16 engines interchangeable between different verrsions of the engine? I had a reply on this forum before that all D-Series short blocks are essentially the same.

From what I have read, some later types used alloy sumps sealed with a bead of sealant instead of a rubber gasket as with the earlier types. Could one of these be used on an earlier engine if need be?
