Default D15y7 Block and D16y8 Head, will it work correctly?

Hi, I'm about to buy my first honda and am not familer with them, vtech etc. The car is a 93 Hatchback with a D15b7 block non vtech? and a D16y8 vtech head. When test driving the car it did not seem to get into vtech at all, what I am wondering is this a proper combination of block and head for this swap, and if so what else could be causing the car not to hit vtech.

Thanks!

What ECU do you have? Has the VTEC wiring been ran? Two places to start. If you're not sure post pics.

I'll have to check that when I get it, what ECU should be in the car? Is the head / block combination one that would be correct? I appreciate the help!

Yeah the Y8 head will be fine with the Y7 block (there is no D15Y7 only the D16Y7). For VTEC most people use the P28 ECU (comes stock with the D16Z6 which is also SOHC VTEC).

Ahh, thanks for clearing that up for me! I decided to pass on the car, still in the hunt for a honda to DD though, the search continues!
