Default D15 vs D16 Bottom End Differences

OK all, I have a d15b2 which In plan to modify. I've bought a si trans, mpfi swap, port and polished d16 head, stage 2 cam, adj cam gear, block guard, and a t25 turbo setup. The only weak link I see is the bottom end. It has a good 110K on it, and I've beat it pretty hard the last few thousand

I'll try and number the ?'s to make it easier to answer the ?'s you know.

1)Can anyone tell me some of the differences with d16a6 block compared to my d15b2? 2)Does it have a different crankshaft? 3)Different Pistons? 4)Do the pistons from the zc or d16a6 fit in the d15b2 block? 5)Is the wall thickness the same?

What I really want to know is can I just drop integra ls rods and si or zc pistons into my d15 and be fine with hp and boost I'll be making (8psi or so).

Otherwise, I'm going to have to look for a d16 block also.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

-John

Best answer I will give you is to find a D16 block and lower end.

Let me try to answer some of your questions

1. d15 crank is tiny at best and weak. Would not recommemd boost with this
2. d15 rods are about the size of your pinky. again would not recommend boost
3. LS rods won't work because deck height is way too short.

Again, D15 lower end is probably not a very wise choice here for what you want to do.

I have a d16y5 block, needs new pistons though and re-hone. Great for a build up.

Are the blocks the same otherwise? Everyone is telling me the blocks are the same, just different internals. If that is the case can't I just drop the d16 internals in my d15?

Can you use a 16y block for a odb0 civic? Is it the same as a d16a6 block? I am not converting to odb1, and I know alot of the parts from newer civics requires you to convert over.

How much for the block shipped also, unless you live close to NJ.

Thanks all,

The blocks are not the same, as he said up top, the physical height of the blocks is different. You can't put a d16 crank in a d15 without serious work because of the difference in journal size. your best bet is too simply find a 88-00 d16 sohc block. nuff said.
