Default D-series, is it worth the trouble?

Hey guys,
So i just moved into this new place, and and the previous owner left a D16Y7 long block in the backyard. it looks like water has gotten into the head as well as the block. my question to you guys: would it be worth it to send it in to get rebuilt to stock status? the reason i ask is because i want to get a civic or crx to commute daily and want a gas saving engine. i do plan on doing a swap down the line (1-2 1/2 yrs maybe?) but for now i just need something economic.
please let me know of any places who have experience with this type of work. I'm in the So. Ca area. Thanx guys.

honestly, no its not worth it unless ur gonna do mild werk to it...my best suggestion is 2 do all motor single cam... n wut i mean by that is buy a new head, stock complete, u should really want it to be vtec, n get the block dissassebled, that get it honed (so u freshen up the cylinders but not making them bigger, so the motor has zero miles on it) n than buy this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...&rd=1

n than swap it into a crx! n than get a an vtec ecu (my opinion get liek a chipp'd p28) n GET THE CAR TUNED! if u dont get the car tuned properly, ull burn a hole in ur pistons...
also buy urself some arp headstuds, so no u got a built motor that will romp on b16s (yes this single vtec motor can beat dual cam motors) thats my opion if i were u, u can use stock rods, ull NEVER break a stock rod if u stay n/a on a single cam..

this thing will get u great gas milage, over 33mpg n when u need 2 "merge" with traffic it will have the best pick-up
its a lil torque monster.. the only machine work u need 2 get done it get the cylinders honed, just 2 resurface them...that head is useable but ur gonna need that 2 have it rebuilt,

if u want i got a y8 head....pm if intrested....BRAND new w/all brand new seals n its a y8, best flowing single head made...n its vtec, n its ported n polished...lmk if ur intred

Thanx for the input.
Your suggestion was the path i was planning to take. something simple and not boring the block or installing bigger pistons than oem. i was looking more for reliability and mpg and if this kind of work wont run the bill up too much, i'd definately do it. for now, i have to look for a local shop that can work on the block and then i'll hit you up to see if you still have that head for sale. thanx again.
