Default d series motor question

i pulled the 1.5L out of my 89 hatch to replace it with a 1.6L si motor and am wondering what the differances are between them are. because i want to build a nitrous motor so the only thing i would reuse would be the head and block, no internals or cam etc. just wondering if i could build the 1.5L or is it better to start with the 1.6L? thanks for the input

What year si engine do you have? The heads for 88-91 are the same. 38cc combustion chambe with 29mm intake and 25mm exhaust. If you use a non-vtec head from 96-01 it will have the same bolt pattern for your distributor, a smaller combustion chamber for higher compression, and 1mm bigger valves on both sides. It will take the same manifolds you have on your 1.6 too.

I believe the blocks are the same, just make sure you dont waste too much money on a sohc.

1.5L = weak rods and crank.

It's the same crank as the 1.6? Umm...no. The 1.6 has a longer stroke. It can't be same crank. Rod length does not effect displacement.

DO the 1-6, the 1.5 has spindly crank and bearings. 1.6 is much stronger.

The D15 has a shorter block. Shorter/weaker rod and crank. The D15 crank have smaller main journal and the rod big end is also smaller.

Don't waste your money on a D15.

Just for fun, with good rods (crower) and block preparation, how many hp do you think a D15 crank can handle? Anybody have an idea?

atleast 160, maybe 200. I'll let you know with my next build up.

I'm shooting for about 200 whp/225 crank hp with a Air Kondisoner.

That looks like an Eaton M45 supercharger. If your project is going to be custom anyway, I'd really recommend getting the M62. The M45 is too small, IMO (assuming that is an M45)
