cut springs?
a friend of mine keeps telling me that i should lower my car, but id rather spend the money for lowering springs to save up for a turbo kit.
he says that you dont need to get aftermarket springs and can cut/chop your orignal ones and it works perfectly.
personaly i dont think its a good idea to cut it, but i dont know much. is this method tried n true or is it bad for your car?

your friend is an idiot. never cut or heat shrink your springs. springs aren't expensive.
Suspension Tech. $120
H&R $140
Neuspeed $150+
Eibach $190+

Don't cut your springs man, wheels with cut springs tend to slant inward under the car. If take a turn fast enough the force can snap the wheel and your done for. It will cost you more money in the future if you cut your springs. By the way your friend is an idiot!!!

You can use cut stock springs if you have some good shocks. I had my 4dr GSR with 4 coils cut off w/ Bilstein shocks and my car handled like a go kart. I could do 90 mph lane changes and the car would just hang - No dip, no biting just horizontal movement. Ride was good too.
But without bilsteins the wheels would load up the springs to much and the car would have major rebound issues along with bottoming out due to less travel space.

A large increase in power on stock suspension could possibly be dangerous.
The number one upgrade you can make to your car is handling.

I still would not recommend cut stock linear-rate springs, even on aftermarket stiff shocks. While cutting the springs does increase the spring rate somewhat, it's not enough to keep the car from bottoming out, unless the shock has a very stiff compression rate (Konis are only rebound adjustable, also, not compression). One of the reasons why aftermarket lowering springs are a higher spring rate, in addition to improving handling, is to keep the car off the bump stops.
