Default ctr cam need help with timing

ok so i just finished putting my lsvtec motor all together and in the car with timing set to spec. i just aligned the two cam gears and the crank to tdc. i have done this many times before and not had a problem but when i tried to start that car it turned over sputterd then shot crap out the intake manifold. after pulling the valve cover i went to set the cams the spec to time it again but this time i used the holes in the cam caps to keep them in the right spot only when i put them in the holes the ctr cam (intake) was about 3 teeth off from where it should be which i dont get because i figure there all b series vtec cams they should all lign up the same for timing. anyone have any idea what it could be. where is the cam supposed to be on the valves for the intake side. maybe i can set it up there and try it. the motor still makes compression but its not running at all. everything else checks out. just not timing

Redo your timing and just make sure that both cam gears are facing straight up. I always use the arrows for my references.

yea i called a shop here in town and they said to not use the holes to line it up because some of the cams come from different manufacters and arent exactly how they should be
