i have a b18a1 with some bolt-ons and im looking into crower camshafts. i see that they have stage 1 and stage 2. on a site i was on it said that you did need the retainer/spring kit for the stage2, but on one site for brian crower cams its says you dont. it says that will work on stock setup. does anyone know if this is true? im trying to get a little more out of myc ar without breaking my pockets. i would like to get just a stage 1 camshaft kit, so i dotn have to buy the retainer kit. with the stage 1 cams will i see any difference, or should i get the stage 2 cams off the site thats ays no replacing anyhting?somene pelase help me
You can use 403's without additional valve train or tuning and you will get a nice power gain. 404's require substantial headwork and compression to make power.

to answer the question about the differences between the two sites, before BC left Crower, it'd say for the stage 2 sohc vtec cam that spring/ret kit is recommended, and for stage 3 it's required.
After he left, the verbage changed and it then said "required" for both. Either Crower is very cautious or is simply trying to sell more spring kits, or a little of both. this reasoning is prolly the case for the b18 non-vtec cams too...

You will find the best deals here or ebay. I couldn't find these cams cheap anywhere except ebay.
Stock rev limit is 7200. The 404's make power past 8000, so they are a waste unless you get valvetrain as well.
