Default Crank pulley issues.

I am currently running a B20/VTEC, with a B16 crank pulley, and a Jackson Racing Supercharger on it. Friday afternoon, I started to feel a little vibration comming from the motor. I thought maybe it was the supercharger idler pulley. I was not able to get around to checking it until this evening. During the course of the weekend, the vibration and noise, doubled in intesity from when I first heard it.

While I had the car idling, and was going to test each pulley with the stethascope, when I saw the crank pulley wobbling like it was bent. I first checked the crank bolt to make sure it was tight, and it was still torqued down. Once I pulled it off, I noticed the keyway had started to sheer in half. Once I had the pulley off, I noticed it had very abnormal wear on one side, as can be seen in the pictures.

I figured maybe the belts were too tight, but they felt fine before I pulled them off.

So, I put in a new keyway, and put on a new B16 crank pulley. Put all the belts on, checked the tension, and left for home. I drive roughly 30 miles home, and half way, I start to hear the noise again. Upon checking the pulley on idle, it looks to have a slight wobble to it. Has anyone had, or heard of a issue like this?

Thanks

Never seen that before. Make sure to get a new one ASAP. All those vibrations are going direcly into the rotating assembly possibly causing uneven wear on the bearings.

I did put a new pulley on, and I am starting to feel the vibration again.

Few pre 92 mazda b6,bp,b8 engines had a problem with this. There is a fix that dosent involve removing the crank. search around on google.
For small snout miata, there is a loctite repair method that has worked.
post up some more pics.

Clutch feels good, and its not that old. The crank does not have any abnormal movement that I can tell. Also, yes, the back of the pulley is worn, because it was wobbling and rubbing on the timing cover.

Hmm. The pulley on the one timing belt I did wobbles but its all the way on, w/the correct washers, and tight. Now I'm afraid its doing the same thing as this...I just thought I bent it but now I'll check b/c I don't want to expletive that motor up at all. Good luck fixing your problem. To me it looks like there might be too much play in the main crank bearings or the teeth on the crank are worn allowing the pulley to move around and eat itself away.

This is what I think it was. Except it was the washer that goes between the crank pulley, and timing gear.
