Default crank case...tech question - help!

this no search thing is killin me..
can someone explain the purpose of the pcv/crankcase breather system to me?
i know (i think) how its supposed to be, i just want summin in writing to verify my thoughts.
isnt the air supposed to flow from intake to head, to pcv, to catch can, to eliminate spent gases/oil?

thx..

It removes gases in the crankcase and puts them in the intake to be burned..

helps with engine performance and emissions..
otherwise you would build pressure in the block..

the breather on top of your crankcase sucks in fresh air from the intake tube.

the pcv valve vents the oil-saturated fumes out of the engine crankcase and vents the air into your intake ( follow the tube coming off the pcv valve )

oh and as far as helps performance... not reallly the oil-soaked air that gets dumped into your intake causes detonation. so you ideally would like to have a filtering system in between the pcv and intake manifold

so, the pcv and breather are two separate systems.
the breather is supposed to allow fresh air into the head, (why?)
and the pcv recircs fumes from block to the intake manifold.

and, i assume the reason that ppl see oily TB's is b/c the breather hose isnt doing its job, and is sucking dirty air into the intake tubing. correct?
