Crane Cams for non-VTEC B20?
I am thinking about getting cams for my non-VTEC B20. Everybody recommends the Crower. But after looking at their dyno for the 62403, I can't say I am impressed. I don't want a cam that is behind stock until 5500RPM. Does anyone have any experience with Crane's non-VTEC cams? Did they work well for you? And was there any loss of low end and/or midrange power?
Just ordered the Stage 3 #14 Camshafts from them. I'm shooting for 400 WHP with my current setup, and hopefully these cams will help me pull through.
I've got the biggest cranes they make for the nonvtec.I like them better then the Crower 405a i had. My 2.0 nonvtec makes 197hp.with the cranes,it idles real bad but i can live with that. It makes great power from idle to 8500rpm+.The only thing is the cranes cost about 200 bux more.If you need spring and retainer i have then brand new in the box for 300 bux. They r a new design from REV.You can run the biggest cam you can buy with these with no problems at all.
Nonvtec allmotr, could you post your setup? It sounds interesting

It's a b20b with stock rods, stock crank, 12.5:1 drop in pistons, very mild headwork, rev ss valves, rev springs and retainer, twm t-bodies, crane cams the biggest they make ,Tec2 engine controls, jun flywheel,ACT stage 5 clutch,DC type-R header. It's in a 89 civic hatchback weighing in at 2040 w/driver. It made 197hp@147fttq 8500 rpm. i'll make alot more power if i port the head more but i enjoy driven it i dont want to take it a part.

Thats a faily nice setup in that EF bro. Nice job!!!
What does it run in the 1/4?
The TWM didnt realy help that much because the heads not built for them yet. It should make a lot more power with better head work. I hope to get the head done real soon and i'll post it for everyone. The car ran 12.64 @ 106 the first time i had it out . with a little more tuning and weigh reduction it will go 11's this year for sure.

why do you like the crane's more than the crowers? just curious
thanks
I didnt dyno the 2 cams but the car ran 2 tenths faster at track with no other changes at all. I like the cranes better for that reson, but the crowers were good cams also. The car ran great with both. If your looking to save some money then get the crowers. The b18b made 178hp with the crowers.I never dynoed that motor with the cranes.
Where is the best place to get crane cams? The stage 5 looks a little more aggressive than the crower 62404, but not as aggressive as the 62405A.
Crane products also seem to be of higher quality. As for where to get Crane products, Summit Racing sells them. They sell the milder cams (Stage 1 and Stage 2) for around $400 for the pair. I am not sure about their wilder cams. I should also mention that Import Tuner actually tested Crane Cams in an LS a few months ago. About 2 peak HP was lost. But power and torque gains in low end and midrange were HUGE. And tuning got back the lost power. I am not sure which stage they used (they didn't say). But it would have to have been a Stage 1 or Stage 2.

It says it's for the B18A/B, but these will also work for the B20B/Z.

that is damn impressive. I have the crower 62404's and they are better than stock of course, but I am not really impressed with them. Maybe I don't have them tuned well though. What do you have the cam timing set at? How about ignition timing? Right now I have stock compression, so would raising compression from 9.2:1 to 11.0:1 help out a lot? What else can I do to tune these better? It sounds like you really have yours tuned well.
