Default Cracked cam holder

Hello, I've been taking my engine apart to rebuild my head and cam across a crack in one of my cam holders:

The engine is a stock B18C1, what would cause this and would I have to replace the part or could I get it repaired at a machine shop.

probably improperly torqued. doesnt look like it can be repaired and i dont think you can buy just a cam cap by itself.

As stated above over-torqued or the part could just be defective and brittle. Also a piece of trash could have been underneath the cam cap when tightening it down and cracked it then. Just replace and move on.

you cannot buy cam caps seperatly at honda, they come with the complete cast of the cylinder head, either you find a use one and send this to the machine shop to get it line bored, or get a new head

not being a bearing surface on the cam and not being near a bearing surface, I would just leave it alone myself. just assure that there is no contact with the cam (if there is then the cap would need to be clearanced). There will be marks on the cam if there is contact.

it's a street car and it will more than likely last. just re-torque properly. a good check would be to reinstall the cam without the rockers and make sure that it spins very freely without dragging (lube cam before spinning)

Hmm makes sense. The engine was running fine before. I'm probably just worrying too much.

It's definitely not a good sign, but is your cam going to lose all support if the crack propagates? Probably not.
