Default CR-Vtec or Boosted B20

Question for the gang....................

I done a fair bit of reading on this over the past couple of days but still can't make up my mind. Do I go with CR-Vtec (N/A) or Boost the B20 I have. There are lots of pros and cons for both which I won't go into. I'm planning on installing rods, pistons, rings, etc. as part of the block build up. Once I put it togeather I don't ant to have to take it apart so I figure thats the first wad of cash i've got to spend. I'm interested in acheiving two things from this swap;

1. Reliability

2. Power

Thoughts anybody???????? Thanks in advance..................

1. Reliability
the b20 was assembled by Honda Motor Company...therefore it was professionally engineered to be reliable
2. Power
i would say for the money you could make more power with a boosted b20 vs NA crvtec

i wish i had went boosted b20 over built b20vtec NA and the motor is not even in the car yet.

Boosted B20 with built internals.
You can always graft a Vtec cyl head on at a later date if you were bored. Or staying non-Vtec might be plenty enough for you. You can make that choice later.

For the drag strip boost, for a road cross/autox/anythingwithturns, crvtec, it'll more responsive in the turns.

I'm thinkin' my first instinct was probably the right one. I've talked to a few people as well as using the chat lines and putting in some decent rods, pistons, etc. and booooooooooost is the way to go. If its done right 12 PSI is easy. I figure I can do a decent boost job for less than its gonna cost me to build a CR-Vtec. Besides a B20 Head is more or less a B18. Any more opinions?????????

Thanks,

BOOST!! wouldn't you rather hear that quiet PPPSSSSSSSHHHHH sound over a loud *** all motor sound?!! just my opinion but i sure as hell would!! i get goose pimples all over me whenever a car rolls up to me and revvs and all i hear is the PPSSSSSSHHHHHH noise coming from the motor. you can always find a vtec head later on and slap the sucker on, so might as well go turbo and boost that baby!!
BOOST BABY BOOST!!

I'd love to do both but theres a budget. For right now its got to be one or the other.

IF I was you I would start with the stock b20 and turbo. Don't go overkill on the boost but with the right tuning 10psi is achieveable. Selecting the correct impeller trim ratios and A/R ratio will make the turbo spool where you want it. My dream is a B18 or B20 that will have full boost right after 3,000 RPM. No VTEC needed there. Just a flat torque curve all the way to redline.

I agree................ I'm gonna boost the B20 for now. Maybe a VTEC head down the road. Thanks,

a lot of you guys are boosting the b20...which i want to do too...but are you guys using stock internals? or forged low cr internals? i figure if i go forged internals it'll be $1g more since 800 for the rods/pistons and 200 for to balance and blue print the block...but it will be worth it in the long run...and then again, my budget is limited so i rather not have to do that unless i really need to.......anyhow, stock internals? or forged low cr internals? (for those who are running the b20 turbo)

I know of a guy locally who is running boost on stock internals. The most he runs is 5 PSI so he doesn't blow the engine. If you're gonna run boost and want the performance do the internals, etc. and pump up the volume..........

Mods are in progress...................... I will be using 94+ LS Integra ECU, Eagle Rods, Arias or Crower Pistons (9.5:1), LS cams, AEM adjustable Cam timing gears, and the Crank will remain stock.
