k, i was really into forced induction, but now im a lil curious onto NA, so i do not know much but basics. and i was searching but could'nt find anything to answer my questions. ok all these questions are geared towards my b18c1 in my full interiored eg.
1) how much hp on average do jdm itr pistons give on a stock b18c1 motor? (i know theres a few varibles but what can be exspected?)
2)are forged high compression pistons better then oem jdm itr pistons?
3)is a itr tranny a real important neccisity as far as drag racing goes for na set ups? (do the shorter gears really cut down yer e.t.'s?)
thnaks for any info or links to info

i'm not sure about b18's, but i know that if you put ctr pistons in a b16a you gotta warm up your car every day for about 5 minutes before you drive it to allow the air inside the cylinders to expand...a pain for a daily driven car. you can raise your compression in other ways without touching the block such as milling the head or using a thin head gasket.
forged pistons are a better quality then the stock parts. an itr tranny is definately not a neccesity, but an lsd is. a short geared tranny will shave a few points of a second. as for horse power gains for swapping in the itr pistons and every thing else is stock gsr parts, my guess is around 10-15 hp. I am not sure of this at all, it is a guess.

I disagree that forged pistons are better than stock pistons, especially ITR pistons. Forged pistons are racing parts. As such they are stronger but like most racing parts (ex. titanium retainers), they will probably not last as long. Stronger does not mean more durable. You need to be making some serious power to justify forged pistons, imo.

I've never had this problem with my CTRs...are you perhaps confusing them with aftermarket pistons with a high/low silicone content?
I would try to avoid milling - changes valve to piston clearances and cam timing(slightly)
