Default Comptech Exhaust Silencer: Look & Effect?

Hey guys,

I have a '95 Integra LS with a Comptech catback exhaust. It can be rumbly at times, and I'm wondering if I should get a "glasspack" done, or get the Comptech silencer? Where does the silencer go, does it change the look of the exhaust, and will it make it less boomy and rumbly from inside the car?

Thanks,
Ben

Its not very noticable visually, it does reduce noise by quite a bit.

Looking at that plot I would definatly run with the silencer, it almost looks like the midrange gains would even make up for the slight loss up high

How does it work? Looks to me like it goes inside the tip? But then wouldn't it restrict the size of the exhaust? So then what would be the point of the big diameter aftermarket exhaust?

Thanks for the help so far!

Ben

he must be confused about the dyno run

because to me it felt like i lost power with the silencer

I don't think he's confused...the silencer is a restriction, so yes, it hurts high rpm breathing and power. But some extra backpressure is a good thing for low and midrange power, which is exactly what that dyno shows. I once drove a sohc vtec Del Sol with a 2.5" straight-thru exhaust w/no cat and it literally had no power whatsoever below 3500 rpm.
