Compression test results are in! Are these numbers not extremely low?
I just did a compression test on my 05 Civic with a D17a2 engine after replacing my head gasket. I tested each cylinder with the engine fully warm, all spark plugs removed, fuel injectors unplugged, throttle fully open and cranking for 8-10 seconds on each cylinder. Cyl 1 had 115, Cyl 2 had 120, Cyl 3 had 120 and Cyl 4 had 115. Is this why my engine feels so tired? It burns 1 quart of oil a week. It still runs smooth, but has low power at full throttle and has low torque on hills. Fuel efficiency is also not very good. So my question is should I replace my rings? I would rather not pull the head again, but I will do whatever it takes to get my baby healthy again. That is all it could be, isn't it? Thank you for your help.
Did you also run a wet compression test to see how much it went up with a bit of oil in the cylinders? It does seem though that with the other symptoms you have a worn engine.
My girlfriend overheated it to the point of blowing the head gasket and she said "the motor was pinging and losing power. It sounded like someone tapping on the motor with a hammer. I was 20 miles from home so I just went straight home
..." Could that damage the rings?
