Common misconception about the B18A1 and the Gen 2 Teg's???
The more time I waste online and in these forums, the more I see conflicting information and posts.
The quandry I noticed recently is that MANY people think that the 90-91 Gen 2 Tegs have the B18A1 motor and that the 92-93's had either the B18B as their base motor or the B17A1 as the GSR motor.
See that? They think that the B18B motor was in the Non GSR model cars of the 92-93 model years.
People who firmly subscribe to this idea site the power difference between years as basis for their belief.
I understand that the 92-93 cams were more agressive and thus explain the power gain for those years. Is this truely the reason? and what else if anything made the 92-93 more powerful?
Thanks for entertaining me.
And anyone who cares to make this crystal clear is more than welcome to comment.

PS These are the matching VIN and motor numbers that I could find, do these sound correct?
The Gen2 engine serial numbers are as follows
b17a ca model 2000001
b17a 49st 2300001
b18a ca model 4000001
b18a 49st 4300001
also for canada they dont have an lss they have a RS SE
The RS SE is also a DB1 not a DA9
The GSR is a DB1 too not a DB2
engine serials
B17A 2700001
B18A 4700001

The B18A came in both 90-91 and the 92-93 2nd gen Integra. The difference between those two are the cams, the latter having a bit more aggressive cams that produce 7 more hp. I believe the intake manifold was improved as well. The B17A came in the 92-93 GSR's, the first years the DOHC vtec ever appeared in the Integra platform in the US market. The B17A were a newer rendention of the B16 found in the 88-91 JDM Civic SiR/ Integra XSi found only in the Japanese market. The B17A is the stroked version of the B16A1 found in those cars. The B18B I believe started off with the 94 Integra chasis. They improved over the B18A editions with even more aggressive cams and intake manifold. I'm pretty sure I covered all the bases, but someone might have more specifics.

There is a lot of misconceptions out there probably because everyone is into the new 94'+. All the old and accurate info gets lost. I can only provide facts on the non-vtec's. JCDA6 is on the right track. The B17A does have an odd crank and I would call it a 'stroked B16A'
B18A:
90-91' RS/LS/GS - (rated 130 hp)
92-93' RS/LS/GS - revised camshafts (up to 140 rated hp)
I have tried 92-93' in a 91' B18A, and it did increase +5% whp on the dyno.
B18B:
94' and up - same cam profile as in the 92-93' B18A; revised intake manifold (up to 142 rated hp)
You can get into the gearing differences if you want, but its more of nightmare.
Info on gearing has gone bad too ..misconceptions have led others to follow. The 92-93' B18A doesn't have the same gearing as the B18B (as some sites list).
