maybe a bearing somewhere... should get it checked.

i dont know if this will help you identify if it is a bearing, but if you hold up like a metal extension up to your ear and place the other end of the extension up to the engine, theres a chance you might hear a noisy bearing that may be at fault.


on another note.. my car makes a great loud rattling sound when you first start it, mostly when cold, not so much when warm. kinda like saying "Blah" but with rattling. i have no idea what in the world it is either....

It sounds like the accessory belts may be either worn out or are not tightened to spec. Depending on the severity, the noise can go away in a matter of 2 seconds or after a few minutes of use. Check your A/C, P/S, and alternator belts with a tension meter (your local shop should have one, otherwise check with the dealership service dept). You may only need to tighten/loosen or replace the culprit belt(s). Worse case, it could be that one of the accessory pulleys needs to be replaced.
