coil-over system decision
go with GC. The guys there are cool and knowledgeable, and offer you the flexibility of having different spring rates. This (spring rates) along with the whatever shocks/struts you use will effect what your "ride quality" is like.

GC - good coilovers, custom set up basically.....more autoX champs use GC than any other coilover....that should say somthing in itself eh.

Would GCs with say 400/350 rates be too harsh with Tokico HPs?
I have H&R Sports right now and the ride isn't bad, but people complain that the HPs are too stiff.

I'm not sure if harsh would be the word to describe it, but I wouldn't recommend HP's with those spring rates. They're just too high for that shock. Rates in the 400 range are close to the recommended limit for Koni yellows and Tokico Illuminas. I'd seriously look at an adjustable strut, and I'd have to recommend Koni's in this case due to their "revalve-ability".
What kind of car are they going on? I've driven a 92 Civic hatch with slightly higher rates and the ride was not nearly as harsh as I expected it to be. Very streetable, and that was on 40 series tires. You will definitely feel the large bumps though...

fsp31: I have a 92 GSR. Right now the Tokico HPs work very nicely with the H&R Sports, not too stiff, but stiff enough. What would you say is the limit (spring rates) of the HPs/ Blues?
thanks

They may have stopped counting the number of national champions who have won with Ground Control coilovers. The two things I like most about GC:
1) You can pick the shock. Off the shelf Konis, GABs, Tokicos, or something custom made. Your choice.
2) You can get any spring rate you want and all the springs are interchangeable. Not enough rotation for you? Just call up GC and get springs 50 lbs/in stiffer. They'll drop right in. Try doing that with other coilover systems. Often they have only 1 spring rate and that's what you get. Sometimes, they won't even tell you what the rates are!!!
Thousands of racers can't be wrong.

I think the HP's are great for aftermarket springs, but a lot of them are in the sub-300 lb range. For example, Eibach Prokits for a Civic are in the neighborhood of 250 lbs front and 140 lbs (!) rear. I dunno what the rate is for H&R Sports though...
The "limit" for Illuminas and Koni Yellows is somewhere in the 425-450lb range. Not that they won't work, but they won't work optimally, and they won't last very long either. So, for the Blues, I'd say that range would be somewhere around 300-350, but that's just extrapolation (cool word...) based on what I've learned about their adjustable struts. It's possible that the Blues could handle the same amount of spring rate as the Illuminas, but I don't think that's the case. An Illumina or Koni on it's highest setting definitely has more spring dampening power.
I wonder if there is a tech support # for Tokico. Maybe we could hear it "straight from the horses mouth". I'm interested in what they might have to say too.

The H&R Sports rates are (340/186) for a second gen teg. I think that's a bit strange, but the 3rd gen teg rates are 270/270 or something like that.
I would like to put on 350/350 Ground Controls with the 22mm rear sway. I think my suspension would be finally finished after that.

the koni sports are supposed to be able to handle rates near 700lbs at the maximum settings..though they won't last as long at theese settings..
i've talked about that with gordon from Koni usa for almost a week
ehehe
the only limitation in spring rates is to be able to get springs with correct dimeter for ur coil over..
H&R have custom spring with diff rates u can choose in 25lbs and diff length from 100mm to 300mm .. but they are 60mm in diameter
the TEIN coilover setups such as HA, RA, RS gymkhanha and other race..u can choose ur spring rates for them when u order them..
Ha have 70mm springs for most hondas application
and getting new springs from tein is easy and relativly cheap
H&R springs 65$ each
teins = 45$
eibach = ?? 55$ i think ??
neway ..it's nice to be able to get the rates u want instead of going with a already designated rate that won't necessarly match ur needs..
