Default Code17 VSS, will not go away!

I just swapped in a JDM b18c with an S80 transmission into my 94 civic LX. I keep getting a code 17, so then i replaced the VSS with a new one from honda. Code is still there, checked fuse 24 and that is fine too. I am not sure if maybe there is part of the harness i forgot to plug back into the car? There are no loose connectors i am aware of.

Thanks

Ive had this issue twice. Both times, others will tell you the same i bet, is the actually connector on the harness for the VSS was f'd up and needed to be replaced. I cut one off a spare harness and soldered it on both times and fixed the issue.

Definitely check into that.

Agreed. That area is prone to coolant spillage which causes the pins to corrode over time.

Oh snap, i did notice tons of corrosion and blue coolant crust buildup in the harness side connector.

CRAP! When i installed the new speed sensor, it must have gotten tweaked when i was tightening it because the hold down bracket sheared off of the housing. I cleaned out the harness side connector with electrical connector cleaner, but it appears i have a new issue.

Guess i need to buy ANOTHER speed sensor, CRAP! Not sure how i messed up the sensor install.

Just look at the connector. Usually you will see the corrosion if there is any. And you can just take the bracket that bolts down from your old Vss and switch it with your new Vss. no need to buy a new one.

I am not saying I do this but I saw an old dude that used WD40 to clean connectors, not electrical contact cleaner, have you guys seen this before. Push and pull the connector on a few times and good to go.

Does your VSS go direct to the ECM or does it go to the Cluster, get digitized, and then to the ECM, you may have other issues???
