code 22 vtec oil pressure problem
so I've been getting this code 22. I would usually get it in 5th gear, when I hit vtec (4800 vtec point)
but now, its been getting more and more frequent, to the point of EVERYTIME I turn the car on, but I can get maybe one or two vtec pulls before the light comes on and I go into 'limp' mode.. so waht do you guys think?
its a 93 h22 jdm motor in a 96 civic hb. using a gsr ecu obd1
I've done almost everything I can think of.. changed the oil, using 5w30 castrol gtx just changed a week ago. changed out the vtec oil pressure sensor, checked for continuity (good), cleaned the screen on the solenoid/vtec spool valve, I even jumped the harness on the engine and went straight to the ecu, I even used the stock ecu (obd1 p13) still the same thing. I even thought it was the v-afc, but even removing that the code 22 is still there.
it doesnt come on immediately. i can drive it and pull 1 maybe 2 vtec pulls (to redline, thru all the gears) and then upon decelleration, the light comes on and back into limp mode. as for the oil pan, its fine, no dents. no leaks. nothing.
I'm going to replace the vtec spool valve assembly tomorrow and hope thats the problem.
maybe becuz I live in vegas, the oil gets too hot? might need an oil cooler?
the only think I can think of and have heard from a few people is that it could possibly be the oil pump? kinda far fetched. the oil light doesnt come on at all, plus I still have enuf power to kill off 99-00 si buses in limp mode. if it was oil pump I would think it would be crappy power at startup and running all the time?
if it is the oil pump that would mean changing the whole assembly? the whole drivers side of the block? wow. I'm hoping for a more simple solution ..
I dont post on here much at all, but I learn a lot from everyone..
thanks for any/all replies.. I'm kinda stuck on this one.
hope you guys can help!

my cousin had this exact same problem no more than a week ago with his gsr motor in his hatch. Same code, same two pulls before light comes on, same everything. He solved his problem when he found that there was a rip in wire going into the the vtec solenoid. crimmped the wires together and it runs legit now. hope that helps good luck
