Default code 17, VSS - could be due to tacho not working?

getting code 17 in 1990 CRX with B20VTEC.

the speedo works fine (is a bit jumpy) and i am using a LS integra mechanical VSS in the J1 tranny to provide the speedo cable drive.

the tacho is not working.

could this affect the VSS at all?

i have not checked for signal at the pin B16 of the ECU yet...

thanks for any comments or experiecnes

t..

Im having the same problem, my tach and speedometer both work fine, but still throwing the code after a few minutes of driving, especially when I decelerate in gear.

Ill paypal $10 to anyone who can solve this problem for me.

I am having the same problem. I have a mechanical vss; the model car is an 88 hf with a xsi swap converted to Obd 1. Vtec is not working either.

****!, I had the same CEL while decelerating in gear problem, and it turned that I had a ton of corrosion in the connector to the VSS and it wasn't making a solid connection. This is a 95 Prelude H23 OBDI...

I got a new VSS and cleaned the connector and now no CEL and speedo works perfect

Check your connector and you may even get a temporary fix by jiggling that connector...

yep - virtually the same problem as me.

i will be checking the signal from the speedo to the ecu tomorrow - to see if it is this...

i think i have found out (through search) that the tacho wont affect the VSS at all...

I have the same problem only while running my Uberdata chips...on deceleration after driving for about 5 minutes throws a code 17.

Swap in the old gay-*** Mugen clone chip and no problem. I'll be checking the VSS connector and wiring today also, I'll post what I find.

silvercivic have you tried unhooking your battery and resetting your ecu? I heard something about after hooking your battery back up start the car and dont touch the gas pedal for like 5 minutes and it will reset itself this way. anyone wanna verify this?
