Code 14 (idle air control valve)-- Tried everything
Ever since I bought my car with a 2000 b1 swap (car is 97 civic ex).. it's thrown a code 14. That motor blew up (long story.. not my fault) and I swapped a 93 b18a1 to replace it. I did put the manifold from the 2000 on the 93 though, because it had all of the right sensors. It still throws code 14(Idle air control valve). I took it to a honda guru friend of mine (Colt 45 on here I believe) and he switched a pin on the ecu harness from a12 to a14 or the other way around.. he said that's how it's supposed to be and I fully trust him on that.. but it still throws the code. I have 2 ecus that throw the code (obd2 p75 and obd1 p75).. so i'm 99.9% sure it's not the ecu. I, also, have 2 iacv's.. both throw the code. Continuity is good on the wire aswell.
Anyone have any ideas? Next step is to just rewire the whole damn thing to the ECU harness.
P.S. this is kind of urgent as my turbo kit is already installed and cannot be tuned until this code is fixed.!!

Re: Code 14 (idle air control valve)-- Tried everything (ccivic)
update.. bypassed the harness just to be sure, and still threw the code. both wires are showing around 13.4v .. is this right? the only thing left if this is right is another new iacv. i'm using the stock ex harness so the pin is in a12, where it should be.. although i have tried a14 and a13 with no luck. everything is reading a voltage.. but is it the right voltage? let me know what your guys's iacv wires read.. perhaps that's the problem.

Re: Code 14 (ccivic)
My wiring list (OBD-1 Integra) says A9 is the IACV. It should read battery voltage when disconnected, since the ECU switches the ground side of the circuit.
A12 goes to radiator fan relay
A13 goes to CEL
A14 is empty
I thought the OBD-1 & OBD-2 IACV control schemes were completely different from each other??

Re: Code 14 (JimBlake)
They are. My car is OBD2a, hence I have the OBD2a wiring harness with a OBD2a integra ECU and an OBD2a->OBD1 harness w/ a chipped OBD1 ECU.

I'm not sure I can help much without an OBD-2a Integra wiring drawing.

Re: Code 14 (JimBlake)
I can use both... they both throw the CEL. Ofcourse I'm going to use the OBDI for tuning purposes, etc.. so that's the main one that I'm concerned about. But it's only OBDI through a conversion harness.

Re: Code 14 (ccivic)
get ahold of a factory servic manual and run the flow chart for that code. Usually they point you in a good direction. Unfortunatly, mine pointed my to a bad ecu

Re: Code 14 (gearhead313)
Ok, i have a honda service manual in front of me and this is the flowchart for code 14 (obd1) but should apply.....
start engine and disconnect the 2P connector from the IACV and measure voltage between YEL/BLK and body ground. Do you have voltage?
NO - Repair open in YEL/BLK wire between IACV and PGM-FI main relay
YES - Turn ignition off and reconnect the 2P IACV connector
Jump A9 (+) and A23(-) to the harness not the ECU and turn the ignition on and momentarily connect the A9 terminal to the A23 terminal several times. Does the IACV click?
YES - Substitute known good ECU and retest
NO - repair open in GRN/WHT or BLU/YEL wire between IACV and ECM (A9). If wire is ok, replace IACV.
Hope this helps you out.

Re: Code 14 (ccivic)
Just for future reference for everyone:
A09 = A12 on OBD2a
A23 = A10 on OBD2a

Re: Code 14 (ccivic)
Well.. none of that worked..
If that writeup were true for my car; that would mean both IACVs that I have are dead.
Anyone know if there's a way to test the IACV off of the car with a battery or something?
I'm getting voltage to the power wire(yellow/black) and from the IACV wire(blue/black), and the voltage does change when throttle changes.. continuity is good everywhere. I suppose the only thing it could be is the IACV.

But... What kind were they? If the control schemes for OBD-1 & OBD-2 aren't the same, are you using an IACV that matches whichever ECU is installed? When you install the OBD-1 ECU you have to use an OBD-1 IACV.

Re: Code 14 (JimBlake)
my friend have the same problem on his 97 EK with an obd-1 gsr swap...(Code 14)
he's using a obd-2 harness with the obd2a-obd1 jumping harness also using a p28...can't figure out how to fix this either
and sorry if this is not the topic but do u guys know how to rewire an obd1 alternator plug to a obd2 engine harness...the colors don't match...my friend has an obd1 alternator...

Re: Code 14 (idle air control valve)-- Tried everything
I know this is old but Im not going to start a new thread when the topic is open! Im having the same problem with 3 known good IAC, and 3 ecu. Voltage, continuity good everywhere. What was the final solution?

hey buddy did you ever find out what was causing your problem on the iacv? Send me a message to email freshout496575@gmail.com
