Default Clutch master cylinder question

I have a 97 civic dx, with ITR motor and tranny (brand new ITR clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing). The clutch pedal seems soft compared to other Type Rs. Will it make a difference if I swap in a ITR clutch master cylinder? Will my clutch pedal feel stiffer if I use the ITR clutch master cylinder?

All Honda Civic's DX, EX, & Si use the 5/8" cylinder (Part no. 46920-S04-C01) . But I know Interga's are larger (Part. no 46920-ST7-A01)

seems to me, the larger MC would give you a softer feeling (less work needed)..

Does that make sense?

No, with hydraulics, the relationship between force and piston diameter are as follows:

(force(master) * area(master)) = (force(slave) * area(slave))

Force * area = pressure, which must be equal at any point in the hydraulic system.

This means that a larger master cylinder will require more force on the pedal side to overcome the spring force on the other side, though you will have more range of motion on the clutch side of the motion. Whether this range of motion will cause you any trouble is beyond my scope of knowledge.

Regards,
Nick

On a side note, does anyone have instructions on replacing a clutch master cylinder?

It's not that hard. I just changed mine. 3 bolts a pin and the hydro line.

I'm going to use steel braided line for the section that has a hose. I heard that helps

Is that very difficult? I took a look when trying to figure out how hard the MC replacement would be, and I didn't see any rubber hose down there. Seems like it would take a LOT of elbow grease to knock that job out... Also, what is that supposed to help out?

Thanks,
Nick
